As well as the new clan the DLC includes a new agent the and 8 new units exclusive to the new 'clan'.Sadly, this news confirms suspicions that the Creative Assembly are ending Mod support, the new 'tough nut' data files were cryptic for a reason.13 April 2011The 'startpos.esf' file from previous games has been found. There's a number of softwares that can do this for you.12 April 2011A mod has been released for the Total War: Shogun 2 Demo that makes the following factions playable in the demo campaign:.Note: The demo mod is imperfect and fairly buggy. It WILL NOT work for the full game, only the demo. The Mod, by user.Mitch., and it's guides can be downloaded here at this link:11 April 2011Like in all past Total War games the Shogun 2 gamer fanbase is interested in the creation of a playable factions mod. A factions mod is a mod that allows players to play as factions non-playable in the original release of the game. As of now, April, there is no released mod for the full game.- How come?- What’s taking so long?- When insert game here was released they had a mod out in week! The reason why the game modding is taking so long is because of the changes that the game designers at have done to the game loading scripts. Changes that some mods have seen as an anti modding measure mean that making factions playable isn't as simple as it used to be.
We can no longer simply replace a checkbox 'No' with a 'Yes' as was the case in the older games. Factions now have megabytes worth of XML prose which require elite modding skills to alter.FAQIs anyone at TW wikia creating a mod?No, the Total War wikia is a wikimedia encyclopedia, it doesn't create or release mods. They got rid of unlocking. It is actually a good decision, in my opinion.
I hated having to play an entire campaign that I really didn't want to just so i could play the faction I really wanted. Yes, you will have to pay for the work they put into rendering, testing, balancing, etc to make a faction playable (and I'm sorry, there is no comparison to what they do and the stupid 'all factions unlocked' mods), but it won't be large dollars and you will be able to look at the units/abilities and decide if you really care about that faction. This is a much better method that takes the ability to improve games without the need for massive expansions (read grandpas version of DLC), and I can choose which items I want in said 'expansion' now. Please, Ty, will you explain to me what made old expansions better than DLC? Do companies misuse DLC, yes (capcom and similar, even Sega for some of their games, but so far CA is left alone by Sega because they make money), but you can easily misuse 'expansions'.

The sims series anyone. What DLC allows is for you to add content to a game in smaller chunks, give the gamer the option to buy it or not, the ability to more quickly release items that are asked for by the gaming community. This dumb idea that somehow games were so much better before widespread high-speed internet is just nostalgia blurring your vision.

Many games forced you to deal with their bugs as most games could not be patched, and those that could had to either wait for the expansion a year later, or, if they were lucky, try to download the patch over dial-up. Am I saying that all DLC is good, no, but I am saying that a company who exploits DLC can just as easily exploit an expansion. So far, CA has been very good in how they treat DLC for their Total War series. And mentioning 117 factions, and only playing 13, who give a flip? The original Rome only had 11 playable factions, 3 of which were just Romans with a different Gladiator and three different gods they could build temples to. The other 8 had to be unlocked.
So, already at release, Rome 2 has more playable factions than the original, and just because there is no unlock and you can choose who to play, this somehow lessens the experience?tl;dr DLC isn't the 'problem', it is companies that will screw the gamer no matter the medium used, and so far, CA has not proved to be one of those companies, so get off your high horse and continue to live in the past. Haha, I am not trying to argue with you, you have your opinion and I have mine. I am sorry if it came off that way. (Also, get off my high horse AND continue to live in the past. The past was hell without a horse and screw walking.)I am fine with DLC/Expansions normally, I just think it is weak if they are added as an excuse to lock content. It might be unfair of me to compare it to a game that was released ages ago as the processes associated with modern game development are unknown to me.I guess I will have to wait and see before I judge. If the factions have unique units and such like Medieval 2, fine.
I see the extra cost in development. If it is just Shogun 2 where every faction gets the same 7 units, not so fine.-.The DLC quip was a bit more directed towards EA/CAPCOM with their horrendous on-disc exploitations. I don't mind paying for an expansion. I really mind paying for an expansion that is just locked content.
That I can mostly agree with you on, but Rome has many different factions involved, rather than Shogun, which only has different sub-cultures involved within the same 'faction'. Even with that, however, the price for the unlocked factions in Shogun 2 weren't bad, and some, such as the ikko ikki did have different mechanics and units. For me, I'll admit that most of this is me just being tired of people demonizing CA for 'using DLC' just because they hate EA and their practices.
That isn't CA's fault, so why start yelling at them. Just stop buying EA games (even though it pains me a bit because they own Bioware)Edit. Originally posted by:the good thing about the unlock system was that you could unlock everything in a few ini tweaks.
I'm sure that won't work if you have to pay for ♥♥♥♥:PI'm relatively certain there will be an 'unlock all factions' mod for Rome 2 in the first week. You are confusing 'unlocking' the faction and what the actual DLC of the faction will have, with their own units, balancing, tech tree, bonuses, etc.
I highly doubt that CA has built all of that and is just waiting to 'unlock' them with DLC to get cash from you. That hasn't been their MO in the past, and I have a hard time seeing them do it now. If I'm wrong, it will be a sad day for Total War, but I don't think I am. There certainly wont be a way to unlock new nations, you will have to pay. The good news is that you get the first three for free with preorder, bringing you to 12 factions (not 13, its the 8 base ones, plus Pontus in free day one content update, and the three Greek states in free DLC with preorder) I didn't like the unlock system at all, you start with only 3 factions in original Rome, and they are all the same country. It sucked because I usually don't go for the set victory conditions, I just like doing my own thing. Consequentially, if I hadn't found out that the game files could be changed to unlock all factions, I would've been stuck playing Roman factions the whole time.
