Liv Warfield The Unexpected Zip
Posted : admin On 30.12.2019Plenty of rock cliches on 'Plectrumelectrum' and not very original for Prince music. The band is still competent enough and I find it enjoyable. In a way I wish he made it in the 80s when he was the controversial. Playing rock now have a tendency to sound like a parody. I guess you gotta live the rock&roll to really make it rock. It's why 99% of rock classics goes back to the 50s-90s.

But again, I appreciate Prince with a full band. It's fun enough (for rock in the 2010s.Enter City and State or Zip Code. Prince was the surprise guest at Liv Warfield's House of Blues party after. 'The Unexpected,' that dropped in.I have played it more than ten times, so far. I really love Anotherlove (a cover), Fixurlifeup and Wow.
This is the same song as 'The Unexpected' on Liv Warfield's album (you can call it The Unexpected or you can call it Wow). Such a shame Screwdriver isn't on here, it sticks out like a sore thumb on Hit 'n' Run Phase II but it would be the 4th great song here.Marz, Funknroll and Pretzelbodylogic are alright. I don't like it when other singers sing lead vocals on Prince albums, but some of these songs are quite lovely, especially Aintturninround and Tictactoe. The rest are meh to me. It was in the long break between albums before this that I got really intensly into Prince to the point where I wanted to just seek out everything (so I am a bit of a Johnny-come-lately), and the news of new material was exciting. The bits and pieces had seemed promising, but after initially hearing the full albums I promptly went back to investigating old stuff, which was more interesting.I haven't listened to this (or Art Official Age) since his music was removed from Spotify, so it will be interesting to go back and listen with fresh ears, I have a feeling I will have a different opinion now.
Click to expand. It is a bit gimmicky, yeah. They're alright, but it's not like he formed the group because they are the absolutely best players, or even that unique in any way.
It seems a bit like he created another side-project, like Vanity 6 etc., and then decided he wanted to be part of it himself. Wasn't the album originally meant to have way less (upfront) involvement by Prince, but it changed along the way?
Ida may be a good player, but she plays some weird stuff sometimes, and I especially don't like her stepping on her distortion pedal all the time, not because I don't like distorted bass, I love it, but because she doesn't seem to understand how to use it and/or put it in the signal chain, either that or she wants it to sound super ugly, thin, harsh and and buzzy. Donna is an alright guitar player, she has technique I guess (probably more than Prince, in the conventional sense) but no personality whatsoever, I don't want to hear her solo, give me Prince!Being a guitar and bass player I have mostly taken note of them and I haven't really thought much about Hannah as a drummmer, and if I don't think about it I guess it at least means she gets the job done. Click to expand.I didn't follow the story to the end at the time, so didn't know how it got resolved, I remember that 'Purple Pain' Instagram post from 'Captain' Kirk, and that he handled it well, and good that Prince took care of it, but that really doesn't matter, that kind of behaviour is not acceptable. I guess it just shows that Prince lives in his own bubble, or he would understand what doing something like this means to the other guy. I'm not sure if Prince still has the original Hohner Telecaster he got around Dirty Mind, but if he does, how would he feel if someone tossed that? First of all this was not just an old and valuable vintage guitar, but as the article points out, quite an unsusual model, so not something you can go out and get a replacement for just like that. But more importantly, as a guitar player (or a player of any instrument I guess) even if you have many guitars, you may have a favourite one that you get attached to, the one you return to that feels right and that is your 'player', it becomes something more than just another instrument.
