In addition to the core academic subjects, the HBE philosophy includes standards-based instruction in dance, drama, music, visual art, and physical education. Students will have the opportunity to experience the arts through arts integration in core subjects, exploratory classes, and other arts opportunities not typically found in a traditional elementary school“HBE began their journey of arts integration in 2010 when the school received an Arts in Basic Curriculum grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission,” said Principal Melissa Willis.

“Since that time, teachers have continued professional development in arts integration. Because of their success and faithful community support, the BCSD School Board voted unanimously to make our program available to families in the northern area of Berkeley County. We are excited to have the opportunity to share our love of the arts with children outside of our traditional attendance zone.”HBE is considered a partial-magnet as it will continue to have a traditional attendance zone like all other BCSD schools. If you have additional questions, please contact the school at 843-899-8950.
